Chevalier M.J. Markose was born to M. M. Jacob and Saramma Jacob who were part of God fearing family associated with Jacobite Syrian Church at Ezhakaranadu. He has completed his schooling from govt. high school Poothrika and college from St. Peters College, Kolenchery. He has graduated from Cooperative Training College, Trissur. His initial career began as a clerk at Maneed Service Cooperative Bank and during this tenure he cleared his PSC exam and joined as an inspector in Cooperative Societies. He retired as an assistant registrar of Cooperative Societies.
He has been very active in social causes like YMCA, MJSSA, Cooperative Societies and other roles within the Malankara Sabha.
In YMCA – he served as a founder president in Maneed YMCA continuously for 12 years where his contributions included construction of an office building and an indoor stadium. He also got selected as sub regional chairman for Ernakulam YMCA for two consecutive terms. He also served as treasurer in South West Indian Regional YMCA. He was a part of national committee member of National Council of YMCAs of India. As a recognition for his above services he was rewarded the Bharat Jyothi National Award.
As part of his contributions to the Jacobite Syrian Church, he is significantly been involved in different roles like District Inspector, Diocese Director, MJSSA Treasurer, MJSSA General Secretary, Sabha Managing Committee, Sabha Working Committee Member and Managing Director of Vishwasa Samrakshakan newspaper. He is currently the founder President of Malankara Employees’ Cooperative Society at Puthencruz since 2009.
As a District Inspector for 9 years at Poothrika, he built an office to conduct meetings related to church activities.
He played a role of Diocese Director for one term and MJSSA Akhila Malankara Treasurer for 6 years and General Secretary for 9 years. During his tenure as the General Secretary of MJSSA, he built the MJSSA camp site which includes a large convention center, rooms for official meetings, rooms to stay for the MJSSA members.
As a President of Malankara Employees’ Cooperative Society, he established 2 Neethi Medical Stores to provide affordable medicines to the common man. He was commemorated with the title of Chevalier from Patriarch of Antioch.
His Family consists of his spouse Leelamma Markose (Daughter of C. U. Mathai and Saramma Mathai from the reputed Chalapuram Family) and two kids : Abin M Mammala and Abitha Sara M Mammala. Leelamma is active participant in the church as a Sunday School Teacher, Vanitha Samajam Member and a usual winner in Bible Quizes as a representative from Church. She has been a immense influence bringing up her kids through the duration of their schooling and college. She is still the backbone of the family ensuring everyone is loved and cared for in all aspects.
Abin, the elder son, has done his Bachelor of Computer Applications and is currently working in the IT industry with a reputed company at Bengaluru. He is also actively involved in various Church related and volunteering activities. He is married to Reeja John daugther of T T Yohannan and Jessy John from Thadathil Family. Reeja has done her graduation in B.Com and currently is an entrepreneur. They are blessed with two kids – Angeline Anna Abin currently pursuing degree from Rajagiri college and Basil Abin Markose who is studying in Gregorian Public School.
Abitha, the younger daughter, has completed her graduation (B. Tech – Industrial BioTechnology) and Diploma in Clinical Research. While her stay at Germany she also completed B1 course in German from Goethe University. She is currently working as a teacher in Bengaluru. She is married to Roshan George Cheereth son of George Cheereth and Rosy George from Cheereth Family Puthencruz. He is a graduate from NIT Surat and currently an Engineering Director at an Shipping and Logistics company. They are blessed with a kid Ryan Roshan Cheereth who is currently in 10th grade in Bengaluru.
